Car wreck
In an emergency, call 911 first.
First
Stop your car. If anyone is hurt, call 911 now.
What to do
- 1Stop. Texas law says you must stop after a wreck.
- 2Check on everyone. Call 911 if anyone is hurt, even a little.
- 3If no one is hurt and your car can move, move it out of the road.
- 4Turn on your hazard lights.
- 5Call the police. Ask for the officer's name and the report number.
- 6Get the other driver's name, phone, plate and insurance.
- 7Take photos of both cars, the plates, the road, and anything that got hurt.
- 8Get the name and phone number of anyone who saw it.
- 9See a doctor in the next day or two, even if you feel fine. Some hurts show up later.
- 10Tell your own insurance company that the wreck happened. Keep it to the facts.
Do not
- Do not say sorry or say it was your fault. Just stick to the facts.
- If the other side's insurance calls, do not let them tape the call.
- Do not sign any papers from an insurance company. Talk to us first.
- Do not post about the wreck online.
- Do not fix your car before photos are taken.
Save your Playbook to start a case from your phone.
